"Behold, I say
unto you, concerning the
school in Zion, I, the Lord, am well
pleased
that there should be a school in Zion..."
Doctrine
& Covenants 94:2a
In
1833 the prophet Joseph Smith, Jr. was given a revelation concerning
the
school which had been established in Jackson County, Missouri. The
early
Latter Day Saints were interested in education from the beginning of
the
Restoration. They knew that without education their
children could not
read and study the word of God. They established the first school in
Jackson
County, Missouri. The early Latter Day Saints were not permitted to
remain
in Missouri and the desire to teach children in a school with an
environment
where Restoration ideals and principles could be emphasized remained
unfulfilled
until very recently. Center Place Restoration School is the end result
of many prayers and the sacrificial efforts of inspired and caring
saints.
THE PRESENT
Center
Place Restoration School was founded in 1991 through the devotion and
dedicated sacrifice of Restoration Branches and individual saints
throughout the United States. This school is located at 819 West
Waldo Avenue in Independence, Missouri - only a few blocks north of the
Temple Lot. Since the first day we opened our doors to students in the
fall of 1992, CPRS has dramatically increased in enrollment. This can
be attributed to the many inspiring testimonies, and the
response of many who desire to be in an environment where spiritual
values can be taught. High academic standards are stressed, and
students also receive a solid spiritual foundation upon which
they will build and grow when they enter the world on their own.
THE
FUTURE
The
young people who are a part of Center Place Restoration School,
nurtured and strengthened by the Zionic principles they acquire here,
may well play a role in the development of the Lord's glorious kingdom!
